reasonable adjustments for people with impairments

Disability-confident organisations practise values which enable people at all level to be clear-sighted and candid about relationships between a disiability and the work to be done.

'Disability' in the context of work is a physical, nental or emotional impairment which can affect how a person normally lives and works, although it can normally be controlled. As occupational ergonomists and psychologists, we are pleased to work with people with disabilities whom we are confident we can help; if we are not in a position to do so, we try to help them identify someone who can.

Examples of clients with impairements we have helped include blind and partially sighted people, people with moderate or severe mobility difficulties; people with reaading difficulties ('dyslexia) and with number difficulties ('dyscalculia'); people in treatment with moderate psychological difficulties including anxiety, stress, depression, alcohol abuse.

Assessment and Guidance

We provide two kinds of assessments of a person with a disability.

  1. An ergonomic assessment examines how the physical and other aspects of the work environment of the individual may be adapted to suit his or her needs. This can be far-reaching and financial support may be available through the government agency, 'Access to work'. Particular care is taken to address any potential conflicts between health and safety responsibilities of the employer and their responsibilities in relation to direct and indisect discrimination;
  2. Career management assessment dwells on the strengths and learning potential of the individual, clarifying how he or she can be enabled to succeed in the pressent role or alternative posibiliies to which he or she may move, within or outwith their present employment;

Advocacy and Expert witness services

In areas of disability with which we are familiar, we provide advocacy services to groups through speaking or writing.

We also provide oral and written expert witness services, usually on a joint party basis; Work of this kind is normally conducted after receipt of instructions by a solicitor acting for each side.
