Serving you

‘Risk’ represents part of life of people of all ages. It’s an unavoidable element of being human. Yet lack of understanding about risk can twist it into a source of unnecessary distress and suffering.

We have specialised for over thirty years in helping people to make the best of risks they face, managing them in so far as reasonably practicable. Many find it very useful, for example, to discover how the power of risks about their own aspirations moves them to hope and to energetically get to grips with tough problems.

While you can’t avoid risks, you don’t have to allow being so averse to them that they spoil decisions and impair your communications with people you live and work with.

Resolving practical problems of conflict and stress

The words 'conflict' and stress' are often avoided in our society, as it acknowledging their reality was, in some unstated way, to advocate them. We don't advocate them but we do acknowledge how they are very often major facts of life for many people, at home or at work.

The help we provide therefore dwells on understanding conflict and stress as moments or phases in relaionshps. This approach allows for several possible ways forward, from punctuating the relationship, with 'time out', to upgrading the quality of the relationship with new styles of communication practised by all involved, to various ways of agreeing to disagree and planning accordingly.

Situations in which we help people deal with stress and conflict include:

  • difficulties in relationships at home or at work;
  • deadlocked relationship with a customer, manager, subordinate or significant peer;
  • feelings of inertia in your career;
  • feeling isolated as a minority at work;
  • repatriacion after working abroad.

ABC and ACT

'ABC' refer to three windows on how we help:

  • Affect includes emotions and strains which cramp effectivness or satisfaction in work or home relationships;
  • 'Behaviour' consists of verbal and non-verbal behavioural strategies you can use to improve your lot;
  • 'Cognitions' the beliefs, thoughts and values which provide criteria for your decisions and sustain your commitment

'Collaboration' and 'partnership' through conversations designed to enable you to make sense of what we discover so that you can try it out in your life and work.

The desired outcome is to change how your view what you are capable of, quite realistically. And to enable you to deal with risks much better, by enabling you to:

  • pinpoint sources of harm, either present or potential
  • estimate the likely strength of each form of harm;
  • examine hos you can tackle sources of harm, by yourself and with appropriate practical help from others.
